History
In 1819, Redlands was granted to George Frederick Read, the outcast son of King George IV of England. Read's vision, the unique geography, convict toil and the Colony's first gravity irrigation made Redlands 'the most productive land in the colony' by the mid 1840s.
From the late 1860s until the 1970s Redlands was one of Australia's largest hop farms. The farm had its own cobblestone village including bakery, shop, butcher and bell tower to service the 200 local workers and their families on the farm. The Estate also previously operated a dairy, apple orchard, and wool farm.
Redlands holds many stories. From the son of the King to bushranger hold-ups; a legendary English smuggler to a Bond room accountable for every last drop of whisky; from heroic Boer War horses to noxious African weeds. Come and add your mark to Redlands.
